We understand that keeping your partner or family as enthusiastic as we all are about Tri-Sports can be an ongoing challenge in itself.
To have a healthy relationship with your significant other and your family, you should always consult with them before signing up for a triathlon to make sure it’s a decision everyone can support.
Part of that decision is based on not just what’s in it for you but also the destination and how everyone can benefit, to enjoy the event more as a family on holiday than as a support crew.
With that in mind we’ve compiled a brief list of some of the highlights that Yeppoon and the region offers to help remove hurdles and smooth the transition from ‘No’ to Go!’
Weather – The average daily temperature during the festival is 22-25 degrees. Fantastic for our Southern brothers and sisters to enjoy a warm Central Queensland winter.
Yeppoon Lagoon – open every day, the resort-style lagoon pool is located on the beachfront with shallow children’s play area and an infinity-edge overlooking the Keppel Islands as well as surrounding parklands for picnics and BBQ’s.
The Keppel Kraken – The kids will have a guaranteed ball at the newly built Keppel Kraken, a free water park on Yeppoon’s foreshore. Open everyday it’s part of the Livingstone Shire Council’s ongoing waterfront redevelopment.
The Beach – The Yeppoon beach itself is the most popular in the area and handily right across from the main shopping, dining and accommodation area.
Visit Great Keppel Island – via the Freedom Fast Cat or on a chartered yacht from the Keppel Bay Marina.
Stay at Great Keppel Island Hideaway – After the event why not take advantage of the seventeen pristine white sandy beaches on GKI and its island bushwalking and spectacular lookouts. Enjoy activities such as swimming, snorkelling and diving, deep sea fishing trips, stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking to sunset and coral cruises and bird, wildlife and whale watching.
The Causeway Lake – Sit and relax at a free electric BBQ and watch the kids enjoy themselves on paddleboats, paddle boards and kayaks. There’s also motor boats for sightseeing, fishing and crabbing and no licence is required. The Causeway is situated at the end of Yeppoon beach right near the Sailing Club.
Scaly friends – Koorana Crocodile Farm has fully guided tours which include a large crocodile feeding session, viewing of active nest sites and a hands on experience with a 1-3 year old baby crocodile.
Furry and Scaly friends – Visit Cooberrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary where you can cuddle a koala, hold a crocodile, snake or lizard, play with birds, interact with playful monkeys and hand feed kangaroos.
Emu Park Village – is a delightful little village around 20km’s from Yeppoon, home to the famous Singing Ship. Musical sounds can be heard from the sculpture when a breeze blows through its fluted pipes.
By air – Take in the stunning Capricorn Coast and Islands by air with a Heli-Central scenic flight. Something you and the family will always remember.
Education – Take the kids to Shell World Yeppoon where they can see, touch and learn from a display of over 20,000 shells including marine, land and fossil molluscs.
Experience – the thrill and freedom of gliding along on a Segway Personal Transporter in a guided tour along the beautiful Capricorn Coast.
Eat out – at any of the fabulous cafés, restaurants and hotels. From the Oz-Asian fusion of Megalomania, the relaxed and BYO Thai Take-Away, the upmarket pub food at the newly rebuilt Strand Hotel to Flour an adorable small-town café and the fantastic views from the Keppel Bay Sailing Club restaurant. Just a few of the places on offer!
Picnicking – and play equipment in any of the beautiful parks all along the coast and its towns.
Play golf – at either the Yeppoon, Emu Park or stunning Mercure Resort Championship golf courses.
Accommodation – With a huge variety on offer, accomodation can be as relaxed or upmarket as you like. Whether you like B&B’s or farm stays, caravans, camping, cabins or cottages, self contained units, hotels, motels, resorts or retreats there’s options to suit you and the whole family.
Shopping – Stroll around the town and visit the many boutique clothing stores, surf and gift shops.
These are just a few of the things on offer locally and around the region during the Festival, if you have any questions on other activities or need more ‘family convincers’ please feel free to contact us.
