Yeppoon is the gateway to the Capricorn Coast and Southern Great Barrier Reef, situated 38km north east of Rockhampton. Wander along the picturesque esplanade with its backdrop of offshore islands, sparkling azure sea, clear blue skies and soak up the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Browse through the many boutiques and surf stores and have a bite to eat at one of the beautiful cafés or restaurants in. Following World War II, many towns in Queensland built war memorials. One of Yeppoon’s main commemoration of its soldiers was the renaming of ‘The Esplanade’ overlooking Main Beach to ‘Anzac Parade’. This became one of three streets where avenues of Norfolk Pine trees were planted in 1921, symbolic of continuing life.
Yeppoon has a strong reputation as a producer of tropical and exotic fruits (mangos, pineapples, lychees) and is home to some of the largest producing pineapple farms in the state. The annual Yeppoon Lions Tropical Pinefest, held every October, is a celebration of the region’s history as a pineapple producing area.
Within walking distance of the town centre are Figtree and Ross Creeks, home to the black and little red flying foxes. At sunset, thousands of these fascinating mammals rise spectacularly as they head off to their feeding grounds – an awesome sight to see. On the first Sunday of each month the Figtree Markets offers a wide variety of fresh produce and local arts and crafts.
Yeppoon offers a variety of accommodation options from camping and caravan sites to cabins, motels, fully serviced apartments, resorts, B&Bs, historic holiday houses and farm stays.
The Yeppoon Triathlon Festival is proud to call Yeppoon and the Capricorn Coast its home, we are strong promoters of the region and encourage everyone to spend more time to relax and enjoy everything the region has to offer.
